Instagram allowlisting lets a brand run paid ads using your Instagram handle, without you needing to post publicly. To make sure the process goes smoothly, here’s what you need to have set up before signing the agreement. We recommend setting this up before signing.
Step 1: Make sure your Instagram account is a Professional account
You must have either a Creator or Business account. To check:
Open Instagram > Go to your profile
Tap the three lines (≡) > Settings & Privacy > Account type and tools
If you don’t see "Switch to Professional Account," you're good!
👉 If not, switch to Creator or Business; either one is fine.
Step 2: Create a Facebook Page
You’ll need this even if you don’t plan to post on Facebook. This is how Meta links your Instagram handle to their ads system. To create a Facebook page:
Choose any category (e.g. Public Figure or Content Creator is fine)
Give it a name (e.g. your handle)
Add a profile picture and cover if you want, but not required
Step 3: Link your Instagram to your Facebook Page
This connects your IG account to Meta's Business tools.
Open Instagram > Go to your profile
Tap Edit Profile
Under “Public Business Information,” tap Page
Select the Facebook Page you just created
Step 4: Log into the Meta Ads Permissions tool
This is where you’ll later give the brand permission to use your video in a whitelisted ad.
Go to the Facebook Business Manager > Business Settings > Users > Partners
Make sure you're logged into the Facebook account that owns the Page!
This is best done on a desktop / laptop.
Click the Add dropdown, then select Give a partner access to your assets
Enter the brand’s Facebook Business Manager ID, then click Next.
Select Assets and Permissions.
Then, select the Facebook Page and Instagram account assets that the brand will use for allowlisting.
Enable the permissions for Create Ads.
Save your changes!
